5.0 out of 5 stars Peter David does it again., 19 Oct 2003
By A Customer
Peter David adds another unmissable read to his list of Star Trek greats. Once you pick it up, you truely will never put it down - I have re-read this one on several occasions.

The novel revolves around three alternate universes - 1)The 'normal' Star Trek universe that we see each week on our TV screens, 2)A universe in which Jack Crusher is alive, and Captain of the Enterprise with Picard as his First Officer, and 3)The alternate universe created in the episode 'Yesterday's Enterprise'. At the center of these three universes is of course the loveably omnipotant entity Q, embarking on a quest to prevent his 'Godson' (for want of a better word) Trelane (from TOS) wreaking eternal havoc on all dimensions of existance.

The thing that makes the book so appealing is the way in which the alternate universes are interwoven into an exciting, unpredictable climax. It is also satisfying to see how David 'works in' little details from actual past episodes of Star Trek - details which within the episode seem insignificant, and yet within the context of this novel become interwoven into a grand tapestry of the Star Trek Universe.

A definate must-read that appeals to all ages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb reading!, 27 Jul 2000
To keep it short: Tremendous story and excellent writing of the author! (I read the german translation - but if the original is only half as good as the translation it must be the same breathtaking book! (but normally the original is better)) I read it in one whole night - 'cause I could not stop it! Read it and dare say otherwise! There should be 6 stars above!

Peter David is the greatest Trek author and this is the greatest Trek novel. As epic as any hardcore sci-fi novel, this contains everything a reader could hope for and more - buy this book and you won't regret it. FANTASTIC

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything we expect from Peter David
Typically events later in the series contradicted this story, but I prefer David's version.

The book has some very romantic ideas, including a sword fight of all... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars hard sci-fi in the star trek universe
I usually try to stay away from the Star Trek novels after quickly realising they were just episodes in novel form and not really sci-fi. Read more
