5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Captain Returns, 13 Aug 2000
This is a MUST READ!

The plotline is superbly paced, although many of the references to The Original Series (TOS) may be lost on some. Lots of story threads are neatly interwoven to produce a logical, (sorry Spock) and clever tapistry. The pages turn rapidly on, setting Kirk in an almost Arthurian role, with Spock as Sir Lancelot, faithful beyond the apparent death of his friend. Yes, the initial plot is a little contrived to get Kirk back, but this is science fiction and you don't get fast gung ho action from the Next Generation or the other spin offs. This book would need a series to do it justice if it were to be put on the screen. This one goes on my favourites shelf!

5.0 out of 5 stars classic trekkie novel, 1 Jun 2001
By A Customer
This has to be one of the best star trek novels ever written, although I prefer novel by Asimov, Banks etc I found this to be refreshing and well written novel. William Shatner has outdone himself

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is great!, 21 Dec 1999
By A Customer
This book was so great! I loved chapter 32 the best when Jimmy says to John "You can take this job and shove it!" This book is better than TEK-WAR (Which was very good indeed) I like it how the author tried to deal with homosexuals. I am glad this book won so many awards. (17!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Rediculous but satisfying!
A terrible story line...the Borg "joining forces" with the Romulans. The lead character that will not die; Shatner, old boy, let Kirk go! Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars If you buy only one Trek book buy this.
If you have even a remote interest is Star Trek you will love this. I bought not realising it was part of a trilogy of books and to be honest it is better than the the other two... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Intelligently-constructed slice of Star Trek future history.
This is a cracking read. OK, so it's a Bill Shatner ego trip of the highest magnitude, but I guess we should be able to indulge him by now! Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT!!
Very good, but I don't see why Kirk should be resurrected so many times as if he's invincible. First by the nexus, then by the borg in this book, and then again in Avenger. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, but just who wrote it exactly?!
I was not looking forward to this. A Romulan/Borg alliance? How's that gonna work? Kirk back from the dead? Spock off looking for him? Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, but very hard to follow at times.
I was really looking forward to reading this book. An alliance between the Romulans and the Borg?! Cool! However it is simply not that good. Read more
