This book stands out as one of the best books on shamanism I've ever seen. The Eagle's Quest is remarkable because it maps concepts from modern physics into the ancient shamanistic world... all the while following the Wolf's very personal true story of his quest for deeper understanding. Because Wolf really wishes to know what's going on in the universe, his book is thorough in its investigations of old world shamanism. This is one of the best books I've ever read combining spirituality and physics: it's full of useful information and well-written. I love all of Fred Alan Wolf's books, and this one is especially enjoyable to me, because it was truly written from his heart. This book is a classic.

I was looking forward to reading this book - I am a scientist, and I'll admit, I have taken mind-altering drugs in my youth - but was a little disappointed. Wolf approaches his experiences in a surprisingly unscientific way, and although I realize the damage an overly skeptical attitude can cause, he is astonishingly open-minded. I thought this especially when it came to explaining how he thought people claiming that they could time-travel managed to do so.

Although there were many interesting ideas brought forward by Wolf, they seemed unclear - articulately expressed - but still unclear overall, and by the end of the book you've almost forgotten what they were. The blurb on the front said "A physicist find scientific truth at the heart of the shamanic world". This implied to me that the author was going to knock down some of the mystical walls built up around the subject to find some logical "truth" that the reader can grasp, but I didn't find this to be the case. Instead he ended up presenting a number of theoretical ideas from quantum physics that show that science itself, particularly quantum theory, can be regarded as mystical at times.

This book seemed more like a personal exploration of the spiritual "inner world" of the mind, using the only tools he has to explain these experiences to himself - those he has learnt as a theoretical physicist.

It is a very ambitious book, which explains the lack of convincing explanations, it gets its facts right and it does have its moments. Altogether though you get the impression that it seems like a dentist is trying to do a doctors job... he's got a right approach and some of the know-how but there's a lot left to be learnt and there's some stuff he's only just cottoning on to...

This book presents the occult and the practice of shamanism in a very understandable format. The book presents the parallel of quantum physics and the metaphysical in very understandable terms. I have spent time with Peruvian shamans in the mountains and look forward to spending time in the amazon. I would very much like to communicate with Dr. Wolf to discuss his experiences.
