5.0 out of 5 stars Brought me right back to Robin Sage and the back of, 30 April 1999
By A Customer
a combat talon going in for a blind drop. The author did an excellent job for an outsider looking into the world of special operations. It's top notch training that helps make these soldiers elite and he does a good job describing it. Ranger School was the most physically demanding training I ever went through, but Robin Sage at the end of the SFQC was the most mentally demanding-- getting put in impossible situations with no 'right' solutions. I also recommend some fiction books on special ops that are pretty acurate: any of Bob Mayer's or JC Pollock's books.

4.0 out of 5 stars How to make a Commando, 27 Jun 1999
By A Customer
This book details the training of SEALS, Special Forces, and Delta. An eye opener! The SEALS are the most physically fit warriors on earth. The Green Berets are perhaps the most intelligent soldiers in the entire military. And Delta Force is something straight out of a James Bond movie--those guys can do everything! Read it and find out how to make a commando! To read about these men in action, a better book would be "Black Hawk Down" by Mark Bowden.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book on America's Elite, 25 April 1999
By A Customer
A lot of hype and fiction goes into many "stories" on America's elite units (SEALs, Delta, SOAR, etc.). Not in this one. Douglas Waller does an excellent job of giving an accurate first person's view of the training that these special men go through to become what they are. He should know; he saw it with his own eyes. Read and you will see why when the going gets tough, the President gets these tough guys going. Excellent and easy read. If you're interested in this subject, check out Orr Kelly (best book is "From a Dark Sky" on USAF SpecOps, past, present and future).
