Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Sugar sensitivity is not a syndrome that many of us would commonly consider having, but in fact it could be the cause of our everyday feelings. For example, one day we may feel confident while other times we may feel this confidence has slipped away--but for no apparent reason. The answer to these unexplained feelings could be that you are sugar sensitive. The author defines sugar sensitivity as "the body chemistry responding to sugars and certain carbohydrates differently than the next person." She continues: "This biochemical difference can have a huge effect on our moods and behaviour--how you feel is linked to what you eat and when you eat it." Potatoes not Prozac: a Natural Seven-Day Plan to Control Depression, Food Cravings and Weight Gain will help you discover whether you are sugar sensitive and if you are it provides a step-by-step dietary plan to maintain your blood sugar levels. Being sugar sensitive can also be another reason why you cannot lose weight or fight depression, according to DesMaisons. This book is fascinating as the author brings in her own experiences. It is an easy guide, providing background on the ups and downs of your blood sugar, and includes a user-friendly and detailed questionnaire for readers to discover whether they suffer from this treatable syndrome. The book then takes the reader through the first steps on the road to maintaining a suitable blood-sugar level and shows ways to keep on the right track and live a healthy and balanced lifestyle. This book shows that healthy living is all about simple changes which can make big differences in the way we feel about ourselves. Those wishing to read further around the effects of food on the body could also consider Dr John Briffa's Food for Health. --Louise Coyle --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Synopsis
For many who suffer mood swings or depression, or who frequently feel bloated or exhausted, the problem lies with their body chemistry. The author offers a nutritional plan designed to maintain the correct balance between seratonin, beta-endorphin and blood sugar.

5.0 out of 5 stars The answers you never knew existed, 13 Aug 2001
By wendycarey85@hotmail.com (Chesterfield, England) - See all my reviews
After reading Potatoes not Prozac I feel as if I have gained answers to questions I dared not ask. If, like me you are constantly tempted by sweet or starchy foods or are prone to binging you too could be sugar sensitive. Don't be put off by the title - this book is extremely informative while not trying to force certain diet regimes onto you. It simply gives you the facts and a guide of how to change your eating habits accordingly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tools Not Formulas, 21 April 2001
By A Customer
In a very simple way this book shows the relationship beetwen what we eat and our behaviour. The way we think, the way we act and the way we crave for certain foods. And the most important, it shows how to regulate the way we eat, giving the reader the tools for it - not just a bunch of 'easy' formulas. It is one of the best pictures to that ancient chinese expression that states: "if a man comes to your door asking for food don't give him the food, teach him the art of fishing". If you are looking for abracadabra formulas don't buy it! But if you like inner travels in the search of knowledge and undersatnding of your own person by your own hands, it's a five star's choice.
