Product Description

Aurora Greenway is the kind of woman who makes the world turn around her - including her string of devoted suitors. Widowed, Aurora has an infant daughter, Emma, of whom she is at first overprotective. As Emma grows up, the relationship between mother and daughter is full of tension and disagreement - not least over Emma's choice of husband, who Aurora disapproves of. Then, with the devastating discovery that Emma has cancer, Aurora slowly learns to adapt and compromise. THE AUTHOR Larry McMurtry was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, in 1936. His father and eight uncles were all ranchers. McMurtry earned a masters degree from Rice University in 1960 and quickly rose to international fame as a premier American writer. 4.0 out of 5 stars Note perfect characterisation and dialogue, 23 April 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Terms Of Endearment (Paperback)
As with all of his novels, McMurtry has an uncanny ability to breathe life into his characters in a way that few authors can match. The story deals with the often strained relationship between mother and daughter, and the obstacles that life throws in their way. Always a pleasure to spend time in the company of Mr McMurty's people.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book., 3 Aug 2009
This review is from: Terms Of Endearment (Paperback)
I have never seen the film but I'm a big fan of Larry McMurtry's writing and would recommend all his books - his subject matter is so diverse. This book engaged me from the start and the relationship between mother and daughter shifts throughout the book as did my emotions reading it; one time and I'd be scathing of the mother and sorry for the daughter and later on I'd feel the opposite. Such is the power of McMurtry's writing that he gets right to the heart of his female characters. It's an easy read but one that will really test your emotions. I love it!
