5.0 out of 5 stars A book everyone can relate to!, 20 April 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Object of My Affection (Paperback)
I read this book on a whim. The bookstore that I work at got the movie tie-in version in, and I decided to buy it. I read it in about 2 days, and immediately recommended it to all of my friends. My best friend and I always tell people that if I was gay, she was pregnant, we were ten years older, and we lived together, it would be our lives (but i'm not, she's not, we aren't and we don't). Regardless, I love this book because it the sexaul orientation of the charachters doesn't matter; it could be any two people who are really close. Friendship is a lot more complext than love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maybe the best last line I ever read., 12 Mar 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Object of My Affection (Paperback)
If you love life, cherish friendships and believe in happiness, read this book, which is, in part, a wonderful tale about the process of learning to accept the responsibility you bear for seeking happiness in your world. No part of the book disappointed, and the last few pages are something truly special, as McCauley shows he's got the gift of being able to see inside the soul: he writes the truth, and you know it. I've read no better book since it came out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Read it before it hits the big screen., 1 Feb 1998

Really enjoyable fiction. McCauley's characters are real...the kind of people you'd like to have in your own life. George is especially sympathetic. The ending is spectacular. McCauley manages to stay true to his characters AND deliver a conclusion that satisfies.

5.0 out of 5 stars The "unmade bed" of truth
This is a journey of discovery - two steps forward, one step back - which has an unmistakable "unmade bed" messiness of truth still lingering to it. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Had me crying with laughter!
This is the funniest book I have read this year. Nothing too dramatic happens, just life in general but its the one liners and the obsevations of a cast of eccentric characters... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars The book is ALWAYS better than the movie...

4.0 out of 5 stars Touching, but a little slight
Though I could sympathize with George, I felt that the other characters featured in the book were more like underdeveloped cariacatures than sympathetic characters. Read more
