5.0 out of 5 stars Three queens - one crown, 24 Jul 2002
By A Customer
Set in Medieval England this historical romance is the story of Lady Madelyne a beautiful gentlewoman that proves to be not quite so gentle and Baron Duncan of Wexton, who kidnappes her as revenge against her blackhearted brother for the brutal rape of his (Wexton's) sister. Duncan's plan is to use Madelyne as baite to draw her brother to his death but it he soon finds not only is his plan flawed since the evil Louddon does not care for his sister Madelyne but he, the captor is gravely in danger of becoming captive to his beautiful 'guest' as she not only wins his heart and those of his household but brings delightful chaos to his life as she attempts to right wrongs and defend those she loves.

So why is Garwood up with the queens of historical romance(Johanna Lindsey, Karen Robards)? Simple steam and humor. Hot and genuinely funny is extremely difficult to do. A more or less cliche free laugh out loud sexy read is hard to find and Julie Garwood can write the above combination with knobs on!

Honor's Splendour has such a delightful heroine full of feminine contradictions and a suitably baffled and enchanted hero who comes over as a real flesh and blood person, that it's completely irristable. This is a character driven novel that not only gives plenty of space to the push and pull central relationship but allows us to get to know the rest of Duncan's family. The dialogue sparkles, really leaps off the page and although Garwood almost but not quite matches Robards for hot sensuality she defininately is a good as Lindsey in creating endearing charachters with bags of wit. Cannot decide which writer I like best. Great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A lovely story with endearing characters, 1 Aug 1999
By A Customer
I'm not really a reader of romance novels and came upon this book by accident, but I couldn't put it down. I simply loved it! Garwood created memorable characters, mixed in history, humor and love, and made this a book I re-read every few years (since '87). It's an endearing love story. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars What an introduction to Julie Garwood!!, 14 Sep 1999
By A Customer
This book has one of the best openings of any romance I have ever read. It takes hold of your imagination from the very first line and doesn't let go until you get to the last page. I don't usually rave about books but this one is special. A fantastic book JG. Thank you very much.
