5.0 out of 5 stars Truly from the Golden Age..., 19 Jan 2008
Like the first reviewer I first read this in the 60's and was delighted to find the stories as fresh on rereading as they were when I first came across them. This is a collection that I can read again and again. All the stories are tightly plotted and the characters rich and vibrant. If you like your sci-fi wry and humorous you will not be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars An old friend, 20 Oct 2007

(REAL NAME)
Although the style is inevitably dated, this is classic Schmitz, combining his wry sense of humour with original plot lines. I first read the book in the 1960s and was delighted to come across it again around forty years later. The Vega stories are great fun, particularly Agent of Vega and the Truth About Cushgar. The other stories still hold their own despite half a century having passed since they were written. Witches of Karres may be better known, but this collection is still my favourite
