Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

An archaeological dig near Sunnydale provides this novel with a different locale from most Buffy adventures, and brings the Slayer up against a very unusual adversary. Archaeologists have uncovered the legendary smoking mirror of Tezcatlipoca, the Aztec god of darkness, which was stolen by Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century. Freed from the mirror, Tezcatlipoca prowls Sunnydale in the form of a huge jaguar whilst Lucy Frank, a graduate student at the site, prepares the human sacrifices that will restore his power.

If he receives enough still-beating hearts he will be able to stop the sun from ever rising again, a prospect eagerly anticipated by the local vampires. The collision of ancient beliefs and modern science is amusingly dealt with as the increasingly late sunrises are blamed on a computer miscalculation at the weather centre.

Even in the midst of battle against a bloodthirsty god, the fashion-obsessed Cordelia is more interested in obtaining a pith helmet for the dig, and this bantering humour is a strong point of this novel, as it is of the TV series. The book never loses sight of modern teenage concerns even during the culminating battle when the Slayerettes must fight to avoid becoming the centrepiece of the ritual slaughter. --Liz Sourbut

Product Description

According to an ancient prophecy, the Aztecs will rise again before the end of 1999. Buffy must defeat the Aztec god of darkness or doom the world to eternal night, thus allowing the vampires free rein.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as I expected, 1 Jul 2001
By gloyp@hotmail.com (London, England) - See all my reviews
The fact that it's a Buffy book automaticaly makes it appealing, but things are pretty slow until the end. I didn't enjoy this book as much as some of the others. Its interesting from the point of view that people learn things about the others that happened a while ago (especially the incident with Mrs Summers and Angel). But like I said, because its Buffy, it's worth the read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, 25 Sep 2000
By A Customer
This is almost as good as the Gatekeeper Triology! You MUST buy it. If you're thinking of buying a differnet one don't. A wonderful surprising story line, so discriptive you can almost see it, and a change from vampires. You can't get enough of this book and can't put it down! BUY NOW

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! As are all the BtVS Novels and books!, 1 Aug 2000
I love the cover on this book! I think it's really cool, and it catches your eye straight away! Dianna G. Gallagher is a brilliant author and she brings the whole story to life. A must for any serious or non-serious fan of BtVS.

The idea was good, and does draw you in at the start, quite rapidly. However, it descends into to some obscure names, and the ending is very rushed. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow - one of the best yet!
This book is excellently written and you can easily lose yourself in the crazy story line. It follows the usual Buffy course which makes it a must if you enjoyed all the others.
