Product Description

Synopsis

A crazy scheme to bring peace to the world with the aid of rust. A martian who could be Jesus. An author, plucked from his grave, is thwarted by one Melissa Toad, the mysterious witch of New York. This is a collection of tales which demolish the old saying: truth is stranger than fiction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps you reading Long After Midnight and on till the dawn., 31 Oct 2002

This collection is a cornucopia of literary delight. Each story not only dazzles you with its beauty, it bombards you with the author's poetic love of language. 'The Messiah' (which may be the best story here) is the wonderful little tale of a Priest's crisis of faith, set on Bradbury's famous version of an Earth-colonised Mars, which ends with a very strange visitation and an even stranger pact. It would be worth the cover price all on it's own but, fortunately for the reader, it is accompanied by 21 other elegant and wonderful stories that radiate with magic long after you've finished reading them.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic collection in every sense of the word., 1 May 2009

This review is from: Long After Midnight (Paperback)
This is one of my favourite collections by Bradbury. The title story is enough to bring a tear to your eye in genuine grief in only 15 or so pages. we see Bradbury's full range in this book, from the realistic and gritty, to his fabulous and happy, all in his inimitable style.

This is a master of the English language at the top of his form. If you want to know how to write a great great great short story, just read this book and despair that you can never dream of being this good.
