Explores the emotions on child abduction., 29 Aug 1999
By A Customer
Creeping Ivy by Natasha CooperTrish Maguire is shocked when she turns on the news to discover that her cousin Antonia Weblock's daughter Charlotte is missing, having vanished from a local playground. There are the obvious suspects, Charlotte has a stepfather, a Nanny, a father that has never spoken to her, an Aunt, who may have hurt children in the past. As a barrister who has specialised in cases involving child abuse, Trish Maguire comes under suspicion by the very nature of the research she has conducted into child abuse. Apart from a mystery that kept me hooked, there is a great deal of pain in this book. The interesting thing is that although I liked most of the characters, their background did not preclude any of them from a possibility of having committed the abduction of Charlotte. Thus, I was kept guessing to the end. The abduction of a child gives free reign to the imagination, something in the circumstances we would all like to stifle. It permutates everything and all our relationships, and in this book Natasha Cooper explores all those emotions. Highly recommended.
