4.0 out of 5 stars Day-dreaming of revenge, 24 May 2000
By C. JENNINGS "Sting" (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I heard of JM's book though a review of Black Cabs (his latest book) in the Times. I purchased all 3 of his books and proceeded to work my way though in the comfort of the 07:31 hersham to Warterloo. At first I was slightly disapointed by the stlye of writing, sometimes feeling that there was no depth behind the characters and the expressions and forms used were unoriginal. However, once into the second chapter, I knew this was going to be a great book. The is a charming sence that anything is possible in this book. I really opens your mind and allows your creative/daydreaming side to come out. Yet, having said this, there is nothing that goes on that is actually implausable. Indeed it is clear that a lot of research has gone on technically. The feel-good factor really shows itself and has you gripping the book willing the truth to be heard. In short, with out spoiling the book, this is an excellent and enjoyable read. Whilst the plot sometimes seems predictable, for every scenario you predict there are 2 twists that will have you completely glued to the plot.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, but I've read better from McLaren, 9 Aug 2003
This review is from: Press Send (Paperback)
If I'd read this book before reading Black Cabs, I'd've been more generous with my review (at least a 4). However, as I liked the afforementioned book so much, I found this novel somewhat disappointing in comparison. Don't get me wrong, it's still very well put together with an excellent storyline, which is what I always expect from John McLaren; it's just that I didn't enjoy Press Send as much as I enjoyed reading Black Cabs and Running Rings.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good start, bad ending
This book starts well with an interesting attempt by one of the lead characters to find finance for his company. However, as this financing falls apart so does the book. Read more
