5.0 out of 5 stars A tremendous read, 15 Mar 2000
By A Customer
I have read all five of the "Ramses" series of books and I have been thoroughly engrossed with the whole series. The story has continued with each new book in the series and I would thoroughly recommend this book to anyone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fiction and Fact in Excellent Mix, 9 Jul 2000
By A Customer
Continuing story of the life of Ramses the Great. Mixes historical fact and fiction using or contriving to use what we know (or can guess at) of the Ancient Egyptian way of Royal life. As good as the other book that I have read in this series.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cardboard characters, 6 Oct 1999
By A Customer
After four novels I would have expected to have learned more about the nature of Ramses, but, as usual, the characterisation is very weak and the plot unfolds in a series of disjointed episodes which do not allow for character development. I believe that this is the worst of the series so far: scenes involving Shanaar, implausibly converted from sybarite to guerrilla, put me in mind of Wacky Races, and the death of Nefertari would have been less risible had it not coincided with the simultaneous decease of Wideawake, the golden yellow dog. Why are these novels so admired?

I wish this series was available in the states, too. I picked my copy up in the airport shop in Zurich. It kept me interested for most of the flight back to Atlanta. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh, quiet, you.
Why I liked it? I don't know, but the mixture of history and myth was done very skillfully. I actually found all of the repetition of things from previous books to be very helpful... Read more
