This was a difficult book to get into.

Even flipping ahead failed to stir interest

The characters are 2D, and fail to elicit any reaction, such as warmth, caring, recognition, or dislike.

Imagine Agatha Christie characters, even less well drawn and less life-like.

I left my copy on the train in disgust.

Not consistent with the other great books in the Richard & Judy collection.

I've always enjoyed Karen Joy Fowler's flavoursome humour and warmth of tone and both are present here, delivered with charm and wit and an utterly delightful lightness of touch. What seems at first to be a funny, moving, simple tale turns into a beautifully crafted, psychologically intriguing and emotionally powerful story of a young woman coming to terms with - and ultimately overcoming - her grief and loneliness. Pure pleasure!
