Product Description

Product Description

This is a fantastical story about a man and a woman who visit Nurse Doodle's baby shop to choose a new baby. There's a pink baby and a robot baby and a flower-pot-throwing baby and a little cat baby. They choose the little cat baby and take her home but she wanders off one harum scarum night and then follows an exciting adventure until she is reunited with her parents. Fritz Wegner's beautiful black and white line and wash illustrations perfectly capture the magic and madness of this topsy turvy tale.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surreal, strange but wonderful too., 8 Nov 2007
This is a strange book but much loved by my son and retunred to again and again even though he is nearly seven. The fantastical story is about a man and a woman who visit a baby shop to choose a new baby, because "that's how it was done in those days" They choose the little cat baby and take her home but she wanders off one "harum scarum night" and then follows an exciting adventure. The simple black and white illustrations reflect the magic and madness of this topsy turvy tale. The book ends with the cat baby climbing the Christmas Ladder. I'm not sure what it's all about and I don't know why we love it so much in this house, but there is something about the Little Cat Baby which means it's read again and again. A book worth buying as a gift as I rarely see it in shops so it's likely the recipient will not have it.

5.0 out of 5 stars S J Miller, 22 Dec 2009
A truly eccentric magical little book that connects with young minds on some strange surreal level.

My children, boy of two and girl of five, both love it.

It's odd, it's beautiful, and it's a delight.
