I used this as support material, rather than the main source for my learning. I spend around 30 to 40 minutes each way, when driving to and from work and feel that the time is being used productively if I'm improving my vocabulary and pronounciation skills by listening to language tapes while driving.
I've used this course, along with the 'Learn in Your Car' course and the Pimsleur course, following a system of using one set of tapes for a week or two, then using using a different set for another week or so. This seemed to be the best way to avoid complacency or slipping into repetition without thinking.
There is a bit of chatty, cultural talk and information between the vocabulary and grammar sections but I found that this helped to break things up a bit and maintain concentration. One word of warning about this chatty stuff - the American origins of the course are visible, not just in the accents of the presenters but in a vaguely patronising, 'look, this is fun' style of presentation. If you are either capable of ignoring this or it doesn't bother you anyway, then you'll be okay.
The course attempts to vary the lessons and make you think, but is less successful than the Pimsleur courses that seem to employ a more effective method, both for breaking things up and reinforcing memorisation. It provides more variety in the lessons than the 'Learn in Your Car' course, but doesn't seem any more effective for learning vocabulary.
It was, however different enough from the other two to add some variety and aid learning.
In short this course is okay as long as you intend to back it up with other tapes, classes, books or software (or all four).
