Review

"The most stunning aspect of this book is that the authors serve the needs of all levels of expertise...this format greatly aids the clinician...and guides the beginner..." American Journal of Ophthalmology on the first edition

Product Description

Clinical Anatomy of the Eye has proved to be a very popular textbook for ophthalmologists and optometrists in training all over the world. The objective of the book is to provide the reader with the basic knowledge of anatomy necessary to practice ophthalmology. It is recognised that this medical speciality requires a detailed knowledge of the eyeball and the surrounding structures. The specialist′s knowledge should include not only gross anatomic features and their development, but also the microscopic anatomy of the eyeball and the ocular appendages. The nerve and blood supply to the orbit, the autonomic innervation of the orbital structures, the visual pathway, and associated visual reflexes should receive great emphasis. The practical application of anatomic facts to ophthalmology has been emphasised throughout this book in the form of Clinical Notes in each chapter. Clinical problems requiring anatomic knowledge for their solution are presented at the end of each chapter. Illustrations are kept simple and overview drawings of the distribution of the cranial and autonomic nerves have been included.

5.0 out of 5 stars a really wonderful book, 26 Feb 2004
By A Customer
I always hated anatomy as a pre-clinical medical student... and perhaps because I never really learnt it in enough detail, I have regarded the whole subject with a deep sense of insecurity ever since. I was therefore really excited to discover a book which makes eye anatomy seem easy and accessible.

In addition to presenting anatomy in quite straightforward and logical terms, without the constant references to undefined structures which litter many anatomy books, Snell ends each chapter with several pages of clinical scenarios which make it all seem relevant, both to exams and real life.

Intentional repetition of key points and diagrams throughout different chapters helps to reinforce learning, and after going through it once, the reader will find they are able to remember a surprising amount of detail.

I therefore thoroughly recommend this book, particularly for those taking part 1 MRCOphth - it certainly helped me answer several of the essays in January's exam. It contains lots of detail which you would not really understand from reading Ferris alone, and is infinitely more readable than the anatomy chapter in Forrester.

5.0 out of 5 stars Complain? Me? No way., 2 Oct 2009
By Fisher Man (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I bought this book on the recommendation of an ophthalmology tutor who claimed it was "excellent bedtime reading". Well, maybe if you like looking at gory pictures of the eye last thing at night and reading text in a tiny font when you've had six pints. Me, I prefer GQ or Nuts. I expect it's a very good book though because the guy who recommended it is very nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for eye anatomy., 16 Aug 2004
By A Customer
This book is essential for anyone studying anatomy of the eyes. It is comprehensively written and illustrated and even manages to uncomplicate the visual pathway and the orbital nerve/vessel system..
