The effect of such government support in Germany has been dramatic, leading to a fourfold increase in the number of organic farms and a sevenfold increase in land area. A similar rate of growth could occur in the UK where many farmers dislike set-aside farming, and organic farming provides a better alternative. Although a growing public demand for organic products is assured, the main problem of how to make it pay remains. This book identifies the key points for success, and draws on the experience and knowledge of farmers who have turned organic farming into a thriving commercial enterprise.
