4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide to the beautiful birds in Southern Africa, 28 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Used this when travelling in the Okavango Delta, Etosha and Chobe. Extremely useful and practical, with colour photos of all the birds, a map showing which parts of Southern Africa they can be found in, info on mating habits, living habits, social habits. Most importantly its small and compact so easy to carry around with you when you are walking etc Buy it!

1.0 out of 5 stars umm, chuffing useless, 27 Jul 2008
By spiderboy (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
It's a big ask to provide a book that is pocket-sized, yet covers the common birds of South Africa. Flicking through the book in the field, I found this less than comprehensive and about as useful as a chocolate tea spoon. Most annoying was that the book only provided one photo of the common birds of prey - and that was always a perched bird! As any birder knows, birds of prey are typically seen through bins high up in the air, making it impossible to identify even the largest and most conspicuous vultures using the information provided in this book. Spend more money and get a decent field guide.
