5.0 out of 5 stars Integrative Multi-theoretical Psychotherapy, 7 Mar 2009
By Carola Haywood (Cheshire, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book introduces a new approach to integrative psychotherapy that has been developed by the author over the past five years. It is a clearly written, easily read and very practical work that gives clear illustrations from case examples of how this approach can be used. I would recommend this book to any experienced therapist who is interested in integrationist approaches, as well as those who are simply looking for an accessible introduction to the major theoretical models.

The book is divided into two parts. The first part focuses primarily upon the philosophical and theoretical underpinnings of the model and the second describes the practical skills that flow from the theory. After briefly describing a range of common integrationist approaches, the five principles underlying multitheoretical psychotherapy are described: intentional integration, multidimensional integration, multitheoretical integration, strategy based integration and relational integration. The model takes the stance that individuals are complex and multidimensional, with the dimensions deeply interacting. It embraces a range of theoretical paradigms in attempting to meet the varied needs of individual clients and describes how the needs of the client determine the particular theory that interventions are drawn from.
