5.0 out of 5 stars An exciting end to 'The Protector of the Small' series, 16 Sep 2002
By C. A. Caddick "PSCaddick" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book was a good read from the moment I opened it. 'Lady Knight' follows the exciting adventures of the heroine Keladry in the first year of her knighthood while at war with a neighbouring country. Keladry is a worthy heroine through her qualities of bravery and responsibility, which makes her a likeable lead. Keladry's genuine liking and respect for others earns her assistance and high regard from all who know her. Many characters from previous Tortall books help Keladry along in her quest and add flashes of humour. This book is possibly the darkest of Tamora Pierce's books, yet it is my favourite of all of the books set in Tortall.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not Tamora Pierce at her best, 12 Sep 2002
I have been waiting for this book to come out for ages and read it within hours of getting it. The book starts a bit slow though then it develops to include chases and battle action. There is also a change from the other books in the quartet as this book focuses less on Kel as a person and more on the events that take place. However unlike Squire (which still remains my favorite from this quartet) we do get to see more of Kel's old page friends like Neal, Merric and Owen. We also get little snippets of characters from the Alanna quartet like Buke Baird, Alanna, Raoul and Numair and Daine from the immortals quartet. This was a really good book though i think that Tamora Pierce has written better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, but not her best piece of writing, 15 Oct 2002
By A Customer
I, like many others waited for ages for this book, which I consider to be a suitible ending to the quartet. However, it lacked Tamora's usual writing flair... focusing mainly on the events and less on Kel. This is a dramatic change from her other books which usually balance the two aspects out: Squire etc. It also completely ignores any love interest for the protagonist - which is fairly unusual in her work. The storyline as always is top-notch, although a little predictble since they have been building it up for ages. The best thing about this book are the snippets of information slipped in about other Tamora Pierce characters. It was great to hear about Numair, Daine, Alanna, Geoege etc.. and many new characters are brought into th tale.
For the end of a series it barely concludes the story, making it obvious that this is not the last we will hear of Kel and some of her friends. I look forward to hearing more of them in Tamora's future books.
