3.0 out of 5 stars An analogy for young adults, 6 Sep 2009
Aimed at young adult readers this is best read within the series of these books rather than as a standalone as the context of the book needs to be understood. Nevertheless, even as a standalone read the book tells an enjoyable, if predictable, story. Set in a future where computers rule the world the Net Force team are contesting a race against a series of teams from other countries all flying virtual spaceships of their own design. The team from the Carpathian Alliance soon prove to be up to no good and the book develops into a battle between America and the Eastern Bloc, and there was bound to be only one outcome in the book as a result. This book is well-suited for its target audience of young readers.

1.0 out of 5 stars pretty good book, 1 Oct 2005
The Great Race is a series of Net Force books created by Tom Clancy. In this book our four main characters are Leif Anderson, David Gray, Andy Moore, and Matt Hunter. They are the Net Force Explorers. The Net Force Explorers are a group of whiz kids who know more about computers and technology than adults and use that knowledge to fight crime. This story takes place in the future, to be more specific 2025, where computers rule the world. In this book we find Leif, Matt, David and Andy in a competition to build a spaceship and race it against other teams from around the world. The prize is a chance to be on a show about the race of the century. After winning the final elimination round, they are off to Hollywood where the action starts to happen. Sabotage, cheating and possibly even murder are in store for the Explorers and their prime suspects are the Carpathian Alliance. The Carpathians will do anything to get new technology for their country.
