Product Description

Product Description

Every Friday night, the same seven Dublin workers meet to travel home in Tom Fitzgerald's lilac-coloured minibus. Each of them needs to return regularly to Rathdoon: Nancy Morris, a real 'Miss Mouse', is known for her meanness and has to escape her flatmate's carping; Dee Burke is engrossed in her affair; Kev Kennedy has a side to his character hidden even from his family; Celis Ryan has to face her mother making a drunken exhibition of herself - and Tom has his reasons. Meave Binchy's vibrant characters, with all their joys and sadness, are brilliantly brought to life by Kate Binchy. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book to start you on the trail of becoming a fan., 3 Jun 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Lilac Bus (Paperback)
All Maeve Binchey's books make riveting reading, and this one is no exception. My best friend has not yet read any of her work, so I have given her this book to whet her appetite for the rest. 'The Lilac Bus' will make you laugh and cry, as usual with Miss Binchey, and you will be very sorry when you have come to the end - again, as usual with Miss B. Try 'Evening Class' next, another gem.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely, 19 Feb 2007
This review is from: Lilac Bus (Paperback)
I loved this book! I did think it was a tad short, but then I do like to know what happens next and next and next!
Your heart will definately go out to some of the characters as you discover why they are the way they are and how some of them have kept their secrets for years!
Certainly recomended as an introduction to Maeve Binchy, once you have read one, your hooked on them all!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great nostalgia!, 26 Jan 2009
This review is from: Lilac Bus (Paperback)
It's ages since I read this and I must have lost my original copy but recently I picked it up again in a second hand shop and read it again cover to cover. It's amusing, sweet, funny and a good glimpse into rural village life in Ireland where eveybody knows everybody's business and there are secrets lurking behind every front door. The book is more short stories rather than one main story but all the characters are somehow linked by the fact that they all get the same lilac bus home every Friday from Dublin and return again on a Sunday. I'm holding onto this copy now as I don't want to lose it again. If you're a Binchy fan and you haven't yet read The Lilac Bus, you MUST read it!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Lilac Bus
This is a very good read, it contains the usual Binchy humour and is like all her books very witty. Well recommended.
