Product Description

From the Author
Rich in native lore, this is a true story.
TROUBLE'S DAUGHTER took me three years to research and write. The book was inspired from a commute along the Hutchinson River Parkway in Westchester, NY. On the drive to a job in Connecticut everyday, I thought about the Puritan trouble maker Anne Hutchinson and her daughter Susanna, captured by Indians. When I started to research the book, I knew very little about Native Americans or colonial life in the 1600s. I ended up driving to New Jersey twice a week to study with Herbert Kraft, the world's most prominent expert on Lenape (Delaware) Indians. I love to meet my readers and often visit middle and elementary schools, grades 3-8. For local schools in my own New York City/lower Westchester/NJ/Connecticut area, I have an archaeology show on Native Americans. I bring Algonkian artifacts, on loan to me, to the schools. My email address is: KKirkpatCI@aol.com. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars A breathtaking 17th century young girl's adventure, 21 Sep 1998
By A Customer
This novel combines fascinating scholarship of 17th century early colonial New England, both the settlers and the Lanape tribe, with a gripping and sensitive adventure of a white girl taken captive by the Lanape who have killed the rest of her family. That she first fights them, attempting escape and then slowly begins to accept them as her own family is an an engrossing journey for the reader. The book has much to say about family, tradition and love. By the book's end I felt more of a native American than myself and did not want to leave that world. A second triumph for the young author who is making a national name for herself in fine young adult books set in an older America.

5.0 out of 5 stars I laughed and I cried. I felt real emotion, 25 Feb 1999
By A Customer
What a refreshing wonderful story to read. I felt real emotion. I laughed and cried with Susanna. How she endured, transitioned over from a child to a caring, giving unselfish young lady.

I highly recommend this book for anyone at any age. Such a refreshing book. Good work to Katherine Kirkpatrick...
