5.0 out of 5 stars Another fine book in the series, 14 May 2008
By Humpty Dumpty (Lookout Mountain, Tennessee) - See all my reviews
I believe this is the fifth in dePaola's Strega Nona series, and this time the clueless Big Anthony, looking more than ever like a scarecrow or one of the Flowerpot Men, is seduced away by Strega Nona's back-stabbing crony, Strega Amelia, but Strega Nona wins out in the end thanks to Anthony's incompetence.

This is again beautifully illustrated, mostly done in reds, turquoise and mauves, set in an arcaded southern Italian town, and the story hints at bitchiness and cunning under a surface of niceness. A bit like real life, maybe.......

A funny and truthful story.
