4.0 out of 5 stars excellent value for money, 19 Jun 2001
This book is very good value for money, and is excellent for the beginner. It's an attractive book, with some charming photographs. It covers everything you need, from propagation to pests, is well layed out, and easy to read. The directory covers the most popular varieties, although not all are illustrated, so not the book for identifying a rare species! All in all, a good book for getting you going.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little book for the enthusiastic beginner, 7 Dec 2003

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
I bought this book in a garden centre as I recently purchased some lithops and most gardening books tend to skip over succulents/cacti. Its really an excellent little book starting with an introduction which even includes myths and legends related to cacti, then follows everything the interested beginner would want to know, cultivation, propogation and diseases. There is plenty of information and its well laid out with lots of photographs and illustrations. Finally there is an alphabetic introduction to different species which has some lovely pictures so its not only informative but a coffee table book to browse through. All in all for the contents, the format a soft/hard back, the quality of the information and pictures its not only an excellent overview but also great value for money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book for beginners, 26 Oct 2004

This is a good book for beginners and well worth having. It does not cover a great deal of species, but the ones it does cover are well described and photographed. Covers the usual items of grafting, seed sowing, watering etc. and is a good buy for the amateur grower. Perhaps looking at the name of the author who is so well known in Cacti circles, one would expect something a little more detailed and scholarly, but all in all a good book for the readership it is aimed at.
