5.0 out of 5 stars Well laid out routes with clear descriptions., 5 Sep 2001
By A Customer
This book contains some excellent on and off-road routes that have been well researched and accurately presented. There is a wide range of rides to suit most people along with additional information, e.g. pubs along the route. This book encouraged me to explore my own local area.

5.0 out of 5 stars For Cyclists of any age, any level of fitness, 7 May 2001
By Mr. C. J. Varley "Chris Varley" (Norwich UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The book contains 16 quiet country lane rides and 5 off road rides. I'm not a newcomer to this book. I bought it in 1998 as a 28 year old male new to Norfolk, and making a first return to cycling since childhood.

I have now completed 12 of the 16 country lane rides and 1 of the off road rides. When I say country lane I mean country lane. Often on tarmac wide enough for 1 car only. Roads that perhaps only see 1 car a day.

Cycle gently or speedily through Norfolk, Suffolk & Cambridgeshire's mixture of perfectly flat terrrain or gently rolling hills.

There are no big hills in Anglia. As a Yorkshireman people back home are often stunned that I ride 30 miles on a bike. Why you may ask?? Not many people ride that far in Yorkshire because of the big hills. People from hillier places often forget that cycling is easy and fun without hills. It's fun with hills but often not easy. Don't misinterprit this though. The books not just for newcomers. The book is what you make it.

The beauty of this book is the quaint villages it takes you through. Each one with it's own flint church. Some of the rides also touch the coast, some are from eye catching Halls and National Trust properties. All are thoroughly planned and have easy to follow guidelines as well as a mapped route. You could actually get round without looking at the map. You can't of course do this as it's on the adjoining pages.

Give it a go. Hire a bike if you don't want to buy one. It's the best way to get around Anglia and it also gives you a sense of achievement. If you don't fancy 30 miles then invent your own start/finish. Basic map reading skills will enable you to cut rides in half and start nearer the coast perhaps (for example).

An opportunity you can't afford to miss.

5.0 out of 5 stars EASY TO USE MAPS FOR ALL LEVELS OF CYCLISTS, 27 Aug 2001
By A Customer
THE EASY TO USE MAPS MAKE CYCLING IN THIS AREA A JOY. THEY TAKE YOU OFF OF THE MAIN ROADS AND ONTO THE MOSTLY TRAFFIC FREE BACK LANES WHERE YOU GET A CHANCE TO EXPLORE THE BEAUTIFUL COUNTRYSIDE. EACH MAP IS MARKED OUT WITH ITS OWN DIFFICULTY LEVEL, SO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE LETTING YOURSELF IN FOR. THEY ALSO INCLUDE AREAS OF INTEREST AND PLACES TO STOP OFF FOR FOOD AND DRINK. A MUST HAVE BOOK IF YOU PLANNING TO CYCLE IN THIS AREA.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! Still relevant today (2008).
Just thought I'd add a quick note to say that I think this is brilliant and still relevant today, although it was written some time ago!

Cheers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I bought this book thinking it would show some safe cycle routes for use as a family with relatively young children, I was particularly interested in its 10 off road routes. Read more
