5.0 out of 5 stars A "must have" book, 5 Jan 2009
By Pellizzaro Massimiliano "spike" (Treviglio, Italy) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a great book! It is not a book for beginners, since a little bit of background is required, both AS3 coding and a little bit of Flash would help. I personally come from AS3 flash authoring experience, and with this book I have found a new light in RIA development. This books give you not only the basics, but allows you to fully understand and put in practice what FLEX is about, how to build easily nice GUI based on FLEX framework. If you are a web developer, a game developer, someone that feels very comfortable with AS3 and need to reach the next level of programming, this is a MUST HAVE book!

2.0 out of 5 stars Where's "Hello World"?, 25 April 2009
By Sailor (England) - See all my reviews
Desperately short of worked examples. There's good reasons why most programming books starting out with "Hello World" but this one doesn't. There's plenty of reference material here but precious little in the way of examples, design templates or best practices. As (mostly) an O'Reilly fan, I'd hoped for better.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good content - poor organization, 19 Mar 2009
By Mattias Sandström (Stockholm, Sweden) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The book is up to date with AS3 and the Flex Builder IDE. The content is mainly well written but the organization of the book is horrible with too long chapters and to broad topics in each chapter. Luckily the chapters are broken down in subchapters.
The overall impression is that "Programming Flex 3" is not what I have come to expect from a book published by O'Reilly.
