Product Description

Synopsis

Learning To Be Me tells the true story of a woman's twenty-three-year battle with, and ultimate recovery from, an extreme form of bulimia-the most misunderstood and invisible of the eating disorders. With an honest conversational style, Author Jocelyn Golden recounts the uncomfortable realities of suffering from an eating disorder since the age of thirteen, when she first vomited her breakfast into a bush on the way to school. Through personal experience, Golden shares the journey of violent self-abuse and the many humiliations she faced as her cries for help went unheard or were misunderstood. Eventually, Golden was completely reliant on and immersed in the disease, and she later underwent two life-altering surgeries. After living with bulimia for years, Golden tells the inspirational tale of how she found the strength, motivation, and support to seek the help that finally brought her into recovery. Today in the United States the eating disorder epidemic remains largely a silent and hidden crisis.

Whether you are a sufferer, friend, family member, or spouse, Learning To Be Me will teach you to either give yourself or a loved one the gift of self-love as you continue on the journey to recovery.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Review, 11 April 2006

Having suffered from bulimia myself for 20 years I found this book tremendously comforting and encouraging. I have been in recovery for 4 months and it really helps to know that there are many others out there going through the same difficult battles.
What an amazing and courageous woman and an honest account of what an awful and misunderstood illness does to lives.
The book has certainly given me the belief and strenghth to continue with my recovery.
I would truly recommend this book to anyone with Bulimia or anyone with a relative or loved one who wants to understand the illness further.

2.0 out of 5 stars Be careful
This book is well written and gives a detailed and in-depth account of bulimia but I'd be wary of reading it if you're currently in a vulnerable position yourself. Read more
