2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 26 Jul 2004
By Roy Brookes "roybrookes" (Hamburg, Germany) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I had high hopes of this book but I found it disappointing. The central character is a post-operative transsexual woman and the story is about her attempts to find a male life partner. However, she has a habit of telling everyone on first meeting them that she is a transsexual and most men run away. Not really surprising when she presents herself like this because she is virtually asking to be regarded as a freak. Apart from that she is too perfect. She looks like a beautiful woman, has a feminine voice etc. She lives an almost idyllic life. There is no hint of the struggles most transsexuals go through to arrive at anything resembling a "normal" life. I know. My own life partner is a non-op transsexual woman and I discussed this book with her. She dismissed it with one impolite word.

There are also factual mistakes in the book. For example, TS girls do not refer to biological girls as "rg" for real girl as the author states but as "GG" for genetic girl. This is one among many errors which should not have slipped in. The author does not really know her subject. Having researched transsexualism extensively for my own novel on the subject, and living with a transsexual girl, I do.
