4.0 out of 5 stars A ray of hope to sufferers of myositis, 23 Mar 2003
By A Customer
Squitieri writes in a very direct, honest and easy-to-read way about his life from the streets of harlem to being a master plumber, successful freelance writer and father of 10 children. Through sheer determination, faith in G-d and humour, he writes how he has been able to overcome many difficulties that have come into his life including the muscle-wasting and debilitating disease of polymyositis. Having the disease myself, I can understand the suffering he went through with being treated by orthodox medicine. It took him years to realise that orthodox medicine, in the case of this disease, may be doing more harm than good. His switch over to holistic medicine and his steadfast faith and attitude to cure himself of this disease provides me personally with some hope that I also will be able to work and find ways of getting myself better. This is an inspiring book told in a personal and straight-forward way without being preachy. Just one thing I wish he'd explained in greater detail was the holistic treatment that he had to cure himself of myositis.
