This is a different perspective of World War II. There aren't battles, just the personal struggles of a young Jewish-
American soldier trying to come to grips with Army life and his conflicting feeling about the Germans he meets - especially the German women--during the U.S. occupation. The author uses well-chosen passages from the journal he wrote during his service and then comments on them from his perspective 50 years later. Very interesting and touching.
