Product Description

Product Description

Do you know how to take care of yourself? Not just the pedicures and the organic museli but the real nitty gritty of looking out for yourself? Surrounded by a wealth of magazines, lifestyle books and makeover shows it's easy to find out how to be more glamorous, more successful and more in control of our destinies. But it's not so easy for us to find out how to keep ourselves safe. Our worlds now change so rapidly in terms of how we live, where we live and who we live with that there are no longer any guidelines for navigating our way through the everyday and, very occasionally, not-so-everyday dangers of modern living. Now, with Savvy!, all of that is set to change as former Crimewatch presenters Fiona Bruce and Jacqui Hames provide us with their comprehensive and down-to-earth guide to negotiating the practical perils of the 21st Century. All aspects of female safety are covered - in the home, on your travels, in your finances, out on the town, in your workplace, in your relationships and in the increasing intimidating world of technology. Never patronising and always realistic - thankfully drinking more than 5 units of alcohol and staying out past midnight is still ok! - and packed full of personal anecdotes from the authors themselves, this book is about doing it all and having it all, without risking it all.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great guide to staying safe, 16 Oct 2008
Jacqui and Fiona have produced a brilliantly sensible, readable handbook which is full of practical steps to help you stay safe and get the most out of life. It's inspiring, sometimes touching and always empowering - being both practical and good humoured.

Going away to college? Buying your first car or flat? Moving away from home? Booking a holiday or thinking of going travelling? Then this is a great book to keep handy.

Knowledge is power. Power is liberating. Living freely and well means being smart and savvy and having the confidence to make wise choices that work for you. This book is packed with ways to help you help yourself and I hope other readers find it as useful as my friends and I have done.

Definitely highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone should have one, 28 Feb 2009

I bought this for my daughter and thought it so excellent that I've ordered copies for all the young friends I can think of. It is a very good and entertaining guide, not at all dull, for anyone becoming more independent (boys too) showing how to keep safe while having fun, going out, travelling and setting up home.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read!, 6 Jan 2009
Not only really useful but very funny - these girls share some very personal experiences which not only leave you laughing and crying, but make you think and remember useful lessons in life. It's like gaining a couple of older and wiser sisters who love to tell you stories over a large glass of wine!! Does just what the title says in a very readable style.
