Product Description

Product Description

For three centuries Eutracia was a land of peace and plenty, until the return of the Coven of Sorceresses and the subsequent rise and fall of the Gates of Dawn. And now a new menace stalks the land. A race of fiendish slavers are plundering its people, taking them away across the seemingly impassable Sea of Whispers to goodness-alone-knows what horrific fate. It falls to the king in hiding, Tristan, his sister Shailiha and the wizards Wigg and Faegan to begin unraveling the mystery, but to do so the Scrolls of the Ancients must be found and their secret language deciphered. It is a quest that will take this fellowship deep into the Chambers of Retribution, across the tainted Sea of Whispers to the sacred, shrouded Isle of Sanctuary. As they unravel secrets, confront creatures beyond their imagining and discover the fate of the vanished people of Eutracia, the true identity of the enemy is revealed: a master of the Craft of Magic whose powers, ambitions and capacity for cruelty and evil threatens everything the fellowship holds dear...

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 28 Feb 2005
By K. Wyatt (Bucks, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Having read both previous volumes of the Chronicles of Blood and Stone - the Fifth Sorceress & the Gates of Dawn - and enjoyed them immensely, I had been eagerly awaiting the third instalment to the series. Sadly, though, I was disappointed. I found it possibly the dullest fantasy novel I have ever read. The only thing going for it is that the story is actually ok, just so long as you can keep reading without becoming too bored.
Hopefully Mr. Newcomb will provide a more entertaining story next time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Summary, 1 Feb 2009
By A. Richardson - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
3rd book in the series, Robert Newcomb returns with yet another plot within the kingdom of Eutracia.

Tristan his sister Shailiha are the Chosen Ones, long prophesied to unite the opposing magics of the dark Vagaries and the benign Vigors. The destruction of the Gates of Dawn has given the ravaged kingdom of Eutracia the chance to heal - and the Chosen Ones the opportunity to fulfil their destiny.

But Fate would have it otherwise. For there is, it seems, another who unwittingly possesses magic in his blood - a magic that, in the wrong hands, could unleash unspeakable evil. It is imperative that the Chosen Ones find this unsuspecting soul before it is too late.

If you have read the first two books in the series, then hopefully you are accoustom to Robert "pulling a rabbit out of the hat" story line. Once AGAIN the world is in peril, things get really bad, then last minute the wizards come up with a solution and saves the day. Tristan still has not learned any magic and the closest he does to doing so, does not occur until book 4 & 5.

Overall I would say this series serves as a filler if you are bored and nothing better to do.

4.0 out of 5 stars Secrets and more secrets, 15 April 2006
By Starkey (UK - Preston) - See all my reviews
I really enjoyed the first two books in this series and was not dissapointed by the third. Newcomb carries on the development of the main characters whilst introducing new ones to the ever suffering band of heros. More secrets are revealed by Wigg making Tristans situation ever more desperate. Perhaps Wigg should just come clean and reveal ALL his secrets in one go instead of drip feeding them in moments of crisis - but then we wouldn't have a story would we! Looking forward to the next one.
