5.0 out of 5 stars The Captive Temple, 13 Nov 2004
This is a great book. It keeps you in suspense all the way through as some vandalises the Jedi Temple and attempting to kill Yoda the head Jedi Master. Obi Wan Kenobi returns to the Jedi Temple hoping to be re-assigned with his former Master Qui-Gon Jinn. Obi Wan has been asked not to interfere in the tempele's buissness. I say read this book for Action, Suspense and much more.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best in the series., 20 Sep 2004
By Ian Tapley "thefragrantwookiee" - See all my reviews
(TOP 100 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
THE STORY:
The Dark Jedi Xanatos and his apprentice Bruck Chun have begun a terrorist campaign against the Jedi Temple. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are tasked with protecting the Temple, but Obi-Wan is met with hostility over his leaving the Jedi Order, by Masters and Padawans alike.

WHAT'S GOOD:
I liked the detective/chase flavour of the story, with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan finding themselves constantly one step behind Xanatos, until, with a cunning ruse they bring the game of cat and mouse to a deadly conclusion. The two main characters develop well in this book, as each struggles with their relationship with the other and contemplates what their future holds. The supporting cast of Jedi Knights is also well balanced with the emotionally (and physically) vunerable Bant, the disapproving Siri and Garen, Tahl's sharp wit and Yoda's mere presence (even if talk like a retard he does!). Xanatos is also very well portrayed, showing cunning, wit and incredible bitterness. Like the previous book, we also get a rare glimpse into the everyday life at the Jedi Temple, which is interesting reading. Finally, any Star Wars book that ends with a four-way lightsaber duel has to be worth the money!

WHAT'S BAD:
The only real issue I had with this book is the way the Jedi Council treats Obi-Wan. Yes, I know they're supposed to be teaching him a lesson, but he saves a lift full of kiddies and all he gets as a reward is a good telling off by Mace Windu.

3.0 out of 5 stars Thilling continuation of Obi-Wan and Qui-Gons adventures, 4 May 2000
By A Customer
Following Obi-wans decision to leave the jedi order in the last book, this chapter of the jedi's life concentrates upon the building of bridges between a padawan and his master. The threat to Yoda's life by a misterious mence brings the two closer and they have to work together to protect the jedi order from an catestrophic calapse at the hands of an evil partner of the dark side of the force.

From book 5 onwards Jude Watson's been building up to this, and now pulls it off fantastically. It has the usual un-put-downable quality, but sometimes hits some really high... Read more
