I wanted to read this book because Maddie, the main character, had the same situation as I did (about our fathers). I didn't really like this book because it was too long. The book was about a girl that wanted to buy her mom a gold pin, but she didn't have a lot of money. Her mom would say things like this "Take off that red shirt your dad gave you," and the little girl wore it all the time because her dad died and she liked it so much. In a way I liked it only at the beginning because it made me want to read it more. I really don't know what the meaning of the book was because it had enormous words! It could have been a real story because it felt really real to me. It is a sad story but it can have cheerful times too, and that's what made me read more of that book. I give this book 3 stars because it made me feel like I was actually in the story, and it had a lot of wonderful details, but it was little boring.

I realy loved this book. I read this book back in 1990, and I fell in love with it. At first I said I was going to just read the first chapter. The book got so good, that I read the whole thing. After that, all I've been wanting to do is just let her know how great it was. For people like myself, I hate to read, but for some reason this book caught my attention. I just want to say "GREAT JOB"!!!
