4.0 out of 5 stars A very good non-fiction read, 8 Dec 2001
By A Customer
This book looks at science in a fun and exciting way using cartoons and amusing captions and it tells the stories about the scientists who discovered them. It is about common forces including gravity and air pressure. I think most children who can read well would enjoy it, up to around 13.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to read and fun., 27 Jan 2000
By A Customer
A wonderful introduction to the forces. Easy to understand with funny cartoons and some neat history. It's also bursting with info. This was the first Horrible Science book I read and I enjoyed it all the more. I definitely recommend it to kids who want their science lessons to be understandable and fun.

`Fatal Forces will leave you gasping for more as it is just bursting with info.!'
`Can you resist the urge to discover:-

why your `ears' stop you falling off your bike?
how a little bit of gravity could make you lose your head?
what can make your fillings explode?

`If you think you're able to stomach the `sick' side of Science, then read on as the fatal truth about forces is squeezed out.
Find out what keeps the moon in the sky, how quickly your fingernails grow....and what happens when an apple smacks a scientist on the bonce!

With fantastic fact files and quirky quizzes, teacher tests and crazy cartoons.

159 pages, split over 13 chapters:-

Introduction
Nasty Newton
Forceful facts
Smashing speed
Gruesome gravity
Under pressure
Facts about friction
Stretching and straining
Getting in a spin
Bouncing back
Mighty machines
Build or bust
May the forces be with you

written in a variety of fonts in the usual Nick Arnold entertaining style.
Black and white illustrations throughout, as well as `Bet you never knew' fact-boxes and `Horrible Health Warnings'.
Science has never been so horrible!'

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but some reservations
The idea is fun and the gruesome stories do seem to appeal to kids.

I have a couple of reservations though:
