Product Description
Synopsis
Anne Frank was 13 years old when she and her family went into hiding in a secret room in Amsterdam in order to escape the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. For two years they hid and Anne wrote her diary, providing us with a moving account of a Jewish life in hiding. "Penguin Readers" is a series of simplified novels, film novelizations and original titles that introduce students at all levels to the pleasures of reading in English. Originally designed for teaching English as a foreign language, the series' combination of high interest level and low reading age makes it suitable for both English-speaking teenagers with limited reading skills and students of English as a second language. Many titles in the series also provide access to the pre-20th century literature strands of the National Curriculum English Orders. "Penguin Readers" are graded at seven levels of difficulty, from "Easystarts" with a 200-word vocabulary, to Level 6 (Advanced) with a 3000-word vocabulary. In addition, titles fall into one of three sub-categories: "Contemporary", "Classics" or "Originals".

At the end of each book there is a section of enjoyable exercises focusing on vocabulary building, comprehension, discussion and writing. Some titles in the series are available with an accompanying audio cassette, or in a book and cassette pack. Additionally, selected titles have free accompanying "Penguin Readers Factsheets" which provide stimulating exercise material for students, as well as suggestions for teachers on how to exploit the Readers in class.

5.0 out of 5 stars A tragic, realistic and heartwarming tale., 27 Mar 2004
I have read anne franks' diary years ago. This book shows others the reality that Anne and her family had to live in.
Firstly after anne's family escape from germany, they flee to the netherlands hoping to find peace and harmony. Their luck is short lived when the nazis occupy the netherlands, forcing anne and her family to go into hiding.
It is tragic to learn that anne and many other families had to hide from socitey in order to protect themselves. Their 'secret annexe' is found and they are forced to go into either concentration camps or to the gas chambers. It is sad to note that Anne, her family and friends living in the annexe may have surived their ordeal as all camps and other punishments were scrapped shortly after they died.
Anne's father otto Frank was the only survior of the family. He shared his daughters diary to the world as a hope for multiracial and multicultural communities. Also for learning others about acceptance and equality.

A good learning tool for everyone. A must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book which should be read by everyone, 1 Aug 2001
By A Customer
I remember the time when I was looking for that book like a crazy, as I'd always wanted to read it. Unfortunately it wasn't simple to find it in Gdansk, but at least I have it now in my hands. It's an amazing book, totally different from any book I've ever read. Furthermore, I'm thrilled to read it since it changed the my idea of war we're to see from American movies such as Pearl Harbour etc. Since I'm 18 it really helped me to understand that period of time and those who consider this book as a 'regular' girlie diary are so unbelievably mistaken. I was so touched after reading it, so shocked, so amazed that words can't express it. The book is very moving and especially the fact that Anne's way of seeing what happened outside is so different so brave I think....Well, maybe my review seems to be more like a compilation of my feelings after reading Anne's Frank Diary than a real type of a review thing, but if you take the book into your hands and give it a go you'll see what I mean and maybe your idea of life will change. I think life and love and frienship and happiness are the most important values! The book reminds me of the marvellous Italian movie 'Life is beautiful'. The book is really worth recommendation

By A Customer
This book is simply AMAZING! It's a very touching story, but also happy and funny at times. I just cry when I think that this is actually a true story. The pain they must have gone threw. They were indeed a VERY brave family, especially Anne. It's a Great book and you really should buy it!
