Mechatronics : Electronic Control Systems in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering by Bolton is, as usual, a very interesting, informative and easily read book on the subject of Mechatronics. I had used many of Bolton's books during my HND in Mechatronics and found that the text supplemented my lectures and sometimes went some way to providing more clarity through the use of diagrams and his excellent writing style. I purchased a copy and am now using it for my BSc Mechatronics, however I believe this book to be vital to any student or practicing engineer in either Mechatronics, Electronics or Mechanical engineering disciplines.The present edition (2nd) is much improved and covers many topic areas including a brief discussion on the Mechatronics philosophy / method, sensors and actuators, Control Systems, PLC's, programming languages (Assembly and C), and Microcontrollers. The books also includes case study material and an introduction to Laplace Transforms. All od these topics being totally relevant to integrated systems engineering.

He also makes reference to other texts which gives further more detailed explanations of topics covered in his book, of which some are his own books.

This book has served me well in the past and I recommend that every engineering student should have a copy on their bookshelf.

Excellent book covering a range of subjects that would require a whole series of books to gain the same information. Essential for students in mechatronics or control engineering and at a reasonable price.
