I've used Cutting Edge at Intermediate and Upper Intermediate level. The Intermediate book is excellent much better than other Intermediate EFL books and the Upper Int book though not as good would still be my first choice of textbook.
It is uses task based learning which draws on what the student already knows about grammar rather than directly preaching.
It is best used with students who are in the UK or come from a grammar heavy environment. Occasionally the presentations can be a little weak but the excellent speaking activities more than make up for this.
This book has replaced Headway in most London EFL schools.
