Product Description

Product Description

Barry Trotter is pretty disreputable and unpleasant. Imagine what he was like as a teenager. Here's the beginning of the whole sorry tale. Did Barry and Ermine do it? (Their homwork, that is.) How exactly did Lon end up with a hole in his head that whistles when the wind blows? Was Lord Valumart always that crass? And where did that ridiculous German accent come from? As funny and twisted as the first two books, BARRY TROTTER AND THE DEAD HORSE is also as affectionate towards JK Rowling's originals. This has lead to the books gaining a devoted following amongst fans of Harry Potter as well as being a welcome antidote for the over-egging (eeuwww) of the boy wizard. A process that we're not a part of at all. Oh no. Not even a tiny bit.

About the Author

Michael Gerber is an American humour writer whose work has appeared in The New Yorker, Playboy, The Wall Street Journal and on Saturday Night Live. He too has been loftily dismissed by the British literary establishment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice to see an earlier time, 10 Nov 2004

After reading the first two Barry Trotter books (Which I enjoyed immensely) I was looking forward to seeing how the author would portray Barry as a teenager. I wasn't disappointed.

Barry's portrayed as a typical teenager but if you're expecting any sort of normality - forget it!

However, if you haven't read the other two Barry Trotter books (Shameless Parody and Unnecessary Sequel) don't read this one first as some elements of the 'plot' are related directly to the first two books.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Barry Trotter, 14 Dec 2004
By J. Rosenthal "the_amazing_gloved_one" (Essex, UK) - See all my reviews

I like this one best out of all of the Barry Trotter series, as it has the closest references to Harry Potter. Being a great fan of both Harry and Barry, I admire the humour. The names are hilarious (Ferd and Jorge especially). And who knew that Lon was a communist? Find out how he had his tragic accident HERE. An excellent read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best!, 16 Feb 2005
By Muhammad "Ahmad" (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) - See all my reviews
Alright, I haven't actually finished reading the book, actually just a coupla pages away from the end, I gotta say, its funnier than the last 2 books. I recommend that you buy the first two books FIRST, then buy this. Although the book says you don't have to read neither of the two books, I think you should so things won't get confused and easily understood. And FINALLY, there was a twist in the middle of the book, and it was unexpectable. This is the best, and this is the only thing that you're gonna read in the bathroom.

The third Barry Trotter book, which leads me quickly to my biggest gripe about it. I own the three books and read this one first as the cover assured me that it was a prequel and... Read more
