Product Description

FAITH OF THE FALLEN took The Sword of Truth into a new decade and to new heights of intense, thoughtful and meaningful fantasy, while never losing sight of the need to tell a compelling and sweeping story. THE PILLARS OF CREATION continues that progression and will allow Terry Goodkind to investigate new depths in his characters, to change fantasy and to make The Sword of Truth the dominant fantasy series of the first decade of the new millennium. The new novel takes Richard and Kahlan to the ends of the earth as they attempts to track down an unstoppable demon before it kills them and lays waste to the world.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Pillars of Creation, 29 Mar 2005
Ever since reading Wizards First Rule I have not been able to put Goodkind's books down and I was excited about the journey this novel would take me on.

Unfortunately, once finished, I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. The introduction of the new characters Jenssen, Oba and Sebastien was a good idea and added a new perspective to Goodkinds world, especially the Imperial Order in their struggle to take Aydindril.

I felt that although Goodkind took the time to build up the characters in the story, he rushed the ending. I would like to have seen lots of struggling, magic, bloodshed and emotion at the end of such a story. What I got was two important characters who seem to die in a really lame and unexpected way. The story, as in many others of Goodkind's, skilfully builds up to "the big showdown" yet this time the reader is met with a huge anti climax.

Any fan should still read the "Pillars of Creation" as important characters are introduced that appear in later novels. Even though I was a little disappointed, I still picked up the next book in the series five minutes later!

4.0 out of 5 stars Adding substance, 27 Jan 2005
By T. Eyles "TisTam" (Somerset, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I will admit to initially feeling let down by the Pillars of Creation, having thus far been gripped by the Sword of Truth series. It didn't offer what I was expecting to find: the primary characters, most notably Richard and Kahlan, do not appear until quite near the end. Instead, the book seems to turn the viewpoint around so that instead of focusing on them, the reader is shown how their actions and decisions are consequently affecting the lives of other people in that world.

It is a different approach from the well-worn rut of the fantasy genre's typical formula, and one I ultimately found both refreshing and satisfying. It adds substance and a sense of realism to this fictional world, and gives a greater sense of awareness to the continuing story.

If you want a nice, comfortable read that follows the same traditional path that you're used to; if you just want to find out how Richard kills the latest villain; or if you simply have a short attention-span, you won't enjoy this book. If you're interested in learning more about this world at a more intricate level, and are prepared for something a little different, buy it now!

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 star even though Richard, Khalen etc are in it very little, 17 Dec 2003
It seems that most people that read this did not enjoy it as much as the previous books in the series... but I did! The characters we have followed in previous books are only in this one for a few chapters, but so long as you appreciate that (and I'm not giving anything in the plot away by telling you that) then you have a book well worth reading, and I for one flew through it. Perhaps by leaving out the familiar characters this is Terry Goodkind's way of trying to get us ready for a complete change from the sword of truth series? If so, then this book proves that he has the writing ability to do that. Give it a go.
