4.0 out of 5 stars A humerous date with a very odd family, 9 Sep 2002
By Ms. V. Stowe "vickyonstage" (Essex, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
My drama group performed this surreal comedy a few years ago. The set is quite complex for an amateur group - you have to have a secret passage behind a bookcase, and lots and lots of empty bookshelves. The severed head keeps the Props department busy too. But that said, it was hugely enjoyable to do and with the cast of crazy characters, it gave free rein to our actors to go a little over the top! There were crooked lawyers, nutty old ladies who poisoned visitors, a sex mad vamp, the guy who thought he was Julius Caesar, a wimpy writer, and many more, most of whom get murdered before the final curtain. There are stabbings, shootings, poisonings, hacking to death with meat cleavers and beheadings - don't worry, those last two are off stage! We had reasonable sized audiences who really got into it and roared with laughter most of the time. We are just about to perform his 'The late Mrs Early' which we hope will go down just as well.
