3.0 out of 5 stars
A Fair book, 2 Jan 2001
By A Customer
I never normally buy books online when there followed by 1 review giving the the maximum marks, call me paranoid if you will. I was intrigued then when I received this book for Christmas and upon looking it up at amazon saw it had exactly that, 1 review giving it 5 stars. The book has nine chapters as follows...1. Stake Right, Lose Less and Win More. 2. Staking Plans. These first two chapters are good. They comprise mainly of analysing various staking methods as well as examining the bookmakers overround, showing how easy it is to worship value in racing but how almost impossible it is to say with certainty when a value bet has been achieved. 3. Racing Permutations. 4. Combination Bets. These chapters are the usual rubbish you see in most racing books where mathematics is mentioned. Tables and multi-bets written out in full are the usual page fillers. 5. Group Betting. An interesting chapter once again highlighting how differcult the over-round makes things, a useful table showing the odds as percentages allowing you to work out the bookmakers edge yourself. 6. Selection Procedures. A view on which variables to study when analysing form. Decent enough. 7. Racing System. A fair and honest look at a few racing systems. 8. Twelve Golden Rules of Successful Betting. 9. Bet with Method and Win. The usual rules, Don't bet each-way etc follwed in chapter 9 with four key elements in devising a winning strategy so effectively Sixteen Golden Rules of Successful Betting. Overall a fair book best suited to the beginner who may want to learn some basics before moving onto one of Alan Potts books.
