Alone and on the run from Social Services, 14-year-old Berry has nowhere to go. Until she meets an old man who entrusts her with a package containing a mysterious item that has unbelievable powers. Pursued by the FBI and a vicious terrorist group, Berry hides out at the Glastonbury Festival where she meets fellow outcast, Elle. Escaping over the Atlantic, they soon find themselves dodging bullets in a desperate race across America. But what is in the package? And why is it so important? Hunted through cities and deserts, Berry knows that she must stay alive long enough to find the item's rightful owner - whoever, or whatever, they may be.


About the Author

Steve Voake grew up in Midsomer Norton, near Bath. After leaving school he sold ice-creams in the south of France for a while and once spent a memorable summer travelling across America, where much of The Starlight Conspiracy is set. He lives with his family in Somerset.

This un-put-downable, pacy, racy novel is just the thing for all UFO freaks and junior conspiracy theorists. Berry and Ell are both on the run, but for very different reasons. They start out as confused and lonely young teens and end up entangled with the FBI and fearing for their lives, embroiled in a mystery that's out of this world. Both characters are slightly kooky, quirky kids who are not like "ordinary" teenagers, and yet the reader warms to and empathises with them both in equal measure. A breath-taking ride for girl and boy readers alike. Buy it now!

Fourteen-year-old Berry is handed a package by an old man she has never met. A man who mysteriously snatches her from under a bus when she should have been killed. A terrifying adventure begins which takes her all the way to the United States in fear of her life. A chance-met acquaintance, Ell, keeps her company. But they cannot always agree about the mystery package. Should Berry open it and allow the object's mysterious powers to help them, or is it safer left securely wrapped?

We enjoyed The Dreamwalker's Child and the Web of Fire and found the Starlight Conspiracy even better. The characters are unusual and memorable and the action is gripping. This story would appeal to girls and boys and is for slightly older readers than Steve Voake's previous books. Highly recommended.
