Product Description

Product Description

From the writer/director of "Jerry Maguire" and author of "Conversations with Billy Wilder", this is a coming-of-age tale that owes its tangible authenticity to Crowe's real-life experiences as a teenage reporter who toured with the legendary Led Zeppelin.

5.0 out of 5 stars One time machine to go, please, 22 Jan 2001
I was aware that Cameron Crow was responsible for the Box Office hit Jerry Maguire, but it was my interest in Rolling Stone magazine and its origins that attracted me to this screenplay. It certainly lived up its title and my expectations. If your a fan of old-rock and have wondered what happens on the other side of the stage, then this is for you. Highly autobiographical, the screenplay follows the rock adventure of the precocious 15 year-old William, who manages to free himself from the conservative apron strings of his ever-worrying mother to go and live the experience that most 25 year-olds dream of. The fact that this story was in large-part lived by Crowe, is what makes it all the more absorbing. It provides an evocative insight into the world of the on-tour journalist - experiencing much of what his famous travel companions are, whilst still remaining on the fringes of the golden stage of super-stardom, and having to write an honest account of something which consumes him so. The book also features a comprehensive interview with Crowe and answers many of the questions you'd probably want to ask upon reading it. For fans of this, I'd recommend 'Not Fade Away' by Ben Fong-Torres, a collection of Torres' interviews for Rolling Stone and his reflections on those times. All-in-all, go read, go see!
