A great read, highly informative - covering every sport in detail it even made me laugh when I read some of the lesser known facts and jargon - did you know that water polo was banned for being too violent and that in 1976, Japanese gymnast Shun Fujimoto broke his kneecap during the floor routine, told no one and went on to score a 9.7 after a triple smersault dismount from the rings! Also in 1904, American George Eyser won two gold medals in the parallel bars and the vault with only one leg! A must for every budding Olympian and avid armchair sportsfan.

Having received this book for my birthday, my only disagppointment was that it didn't come with a receipt. The photographs are good, but sadly the accompanying articles fail to rouse my interest in the sports, despipte the wealth of facts and figures. Even my own disapline of weightlifting (school champ '74) was made to seem a tad boring. Though a handy reference, this book does not make an interesting read. Thanks anyway ...

I really like this book because it told me everything I needed to know about the Olympics. It covered every sport in great detail and also managed to add lots of funny facts, and the jargon buster was a very useful bonus. A great book from the BBC!
