Amazon.co.uk Review

Ground Force is a popular BBC television programme where viewers' gardens get a makeover, and this book was written to accompany the series. The presenter and author of this book is Charlie Dimmock who is a professional water gardener and still manages Mill Water Gardens in Romsey. The book covers the steps you need to take to create a water garden, or a water feature, of your own. Starting with advance planning and advice on maintenance, Dimmock explains the technical side and offers practical tips.

The book then looks at a number of different projects: from different varieties of ponds to fountains and streams. Step-by-step instructions are given for every project and each one has a guide as to how much time it will take, whether it is child friendly, the amount of maintenance required and the likely cost. Finally, the book features "Charlie's Notebook" which contains her views on the best water garden plants, how to encourage and look after wildlife and a troubleshooting guide. The book is accessible and attractively presented and proves that you can have a water feature in your garden no matter how large or small your budget or space. --Carina Trimmingham

Product Description

Adding interest to the average city or suburban garden can be a challenge. Water features add a whole new dimension to even the smallest of gardens, but constructing them can seem daunting. Here Charlie Dimmock shows how to create different effects that won't stretch readers' budgets too far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Brilliant. Buy It!, 12 Feb 2000
By Carol Mabberley (Lancashire) - See all my reviews
This is THE book to buy if you are planning your first water feature. There is something for everybody, from a small pebble pool to a stream running through your garden. The books covers everything from materials needed and estimated costs right through to construction. It is all written in an easy to understand style and the pictures are pretty good too. Worth every penny!

5.0 out of 5 stars an excellent easy to read book on pond life and care, 27 Jul 1999
By A Customer
I have just inherited a pond, fish and frogs with my new home. After much advice from well meaning friends, I bought and read Charlie's book. I couldn't put it down. It was easy to read, uncomlpicated and her obvious joy and enthusiasm spurred me on to clean and renovate my new pond. As a result, my fish and frogs are lively and friendly. Her vast knowledge is so simple to appreciate, I now feel confident about how to care for my little pond world. A little piece of heaven in my garden. What a pleasant down to earth person she must be. Well done. I look foreward to her next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasurable and comprehensive for DIYer's like me!, 2 Oct 2000
By A Customer
I have been following Charlie Dimmock and the Ground Force Team on BBC America since I got my satellite two years ago. When I expressed a wish for a small botanical garden with a water feature like the ones that Charlie installs, my husband suggested I go online and see if I could find a book about it. I was very excited when I found "Ground Force", Water Garden Workbook by Charlie Dimmock. I sent for it right away. It only took five days to arrive here in America. The information is so easy to read and comprehend. I can easily see Charlie's style and flair throughout. I have already chosen elements from three designs in the workbook that I will combine to create a water feature. With the concise material lists, instructions, and "Charlie Says" helpful hints, I know my water feature will be everything I dreamed of creating.
