Product Description

Product Description

The TARDIS and a trading starship both arrive on a planet close to an energy-emitting white hole. The Doctor and his companions intent on discovering more about the territory soon realize this is no ordinary planet. This is a place where fairytales exist, but with no guarentee of a happy ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic mix of whimsy and great sci-fi concepts, 11 Nov 2001
By Trey, Korte treykorte3@hotmail.com (Milwaukee, Wisconsin USA) - See all my reviews
The convention of dropping the TARDIS crew into a world where the rules of conventions of fairy tales exists (without ever explicitly stating an actual fairy tale) is fantastic. The humor is wonderful without being smug or over the top. This is a charming novel.
It's interesting that Simon Bucher-Jones and Kelly Hale manage to adapt the storytelling style of a fairy tale without ever making it sound like a parody or satire. It seems that they love both fairy tales and Doctor Who and have successfully brought the two worlds together. I highly recommend this novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality entertainment, 8 Nov 2001
By A Customer
Well, tastes differ, but I thought this was a wonderful book. Manages to be very silly without slipping into self-conscious wackiness and progresses the current 'arc' very subtly. The humour was spot on (bar one groaner), and the plot well-managed. The only thing that might put some people off is that it's very different from the vast majority of Doctor Who books, but in as positive a way as the books on either side of it (City of the Dead and the Adventuress of Henrietta Street). Doctor Who should always experiment, and this is a very successful one.

1.0 out of 5 stars A massive disappointment, 2 Nov 2001
By A Customer
I can't tell you how disappointing an effort I found this - and I'd been really looking forward to it from pre-publicity. A very disjointed, clever-clever book that's nowhere near as funny as it thinks it is and hasn't got many chracters worthy of the name. Not recommended, sadly.
